Monday Musings + Strawberry Swiss Oatmeal

1. Making progress on moving stuff over to the new house is coming along… but slowly. For every filled-to-the-seams box we take over, it seems as though two more boxes worth of things are waiting to be packed. We do have professional movers set up to take the furniture and heavy boxes over on Saturday, but there’s still soooo much to pack!

2. I didn’t get the chance to watch the season premiere of True Blood last night (don’t tell me what happens!) but the near certainty that either Eric or Alcide (sorry, but I am NOT a Bill fan) make a shirtless appearance will get me through the hours until I catch up tonight.

3. I’m reading Jodi Picoult’s newest novel…

…and love it so far! I’ve always had an affection for canines, and the plot of the book – like most of those written by Picoult – is addictive.

4. Ripe organic cherries continue to be my current favorite snack. I’ve been tearing through the $8.99 per lb bags (yikes!) about every 3-4 days, so I might want to slow down given the ever-expanding list of items to buy for the house.

5. I’ve combined some of my dad’s favorite foods in a recipe for Strawberry Swiss Oatmeal for this week’s Back Burner Father’s Day theme.

Cool, creamy, and satisfying, this is a fantastic summertime breakfast (or lunch!).

  1. I’ve been loving local cherries lately. It’s the best time of year when the stone fruits get this good.

Love the looks of the oatmeal. Hot oats just isn’t realistic right now…the thought of cool and creamy sounds incredible.

    Have a good week lady!

  2. Loving the cherries right now too :-) I read Lone Wolf earlier this year; it was excellent – just as all of Jodi’s books have been so far!

The oatmeal sounds great – I’ve added it to my recipe list…and just happen to have some ripe strawberries in the garden! Thanks for sharing!

  3. I love this overnight oats recipe, especially for busy mornings on the way to work combined with already-sweltering FL heat!

Do you use regular or greek yogurt in your version?

Raspberries have finally gone down in price here, and I LOVE them in oatmeal!

  4. I don’t love Bill either – but with Eric, Alcede, and now Chris Meloni added to the show, I’m adamant that it’s the yummiest male cast on TV :)

    1. Ooooh that’s right!! I forgot that Chris Meloni (I still call him Stabler from SVU) is joining the cast… fabulous =). Can’t wait to see the premiere!

  5. I love to eat oatmeal but never used to mix it with strawberry. But bow, I’m driven to try it now for it looks nice and surely it tastes good also.
