Future Foodie

I am thrilled to share with you all that John and I are expecting a new addition to our family on or around December 25th!! That’s right, we just might have a Christmas baby =). We couldn’t be happier!

You may have guessed that I was pregnant what with some of my recent posts, such as the craving for chicken salad + fear of raw egg yolks, my new-found love of cold cereal + short-lived aversion to bananas (couldn’t stand ’em from about weeks 6-12), my inability to partake in raw oyster eating, and the general slowing down of posts (nope, not just due to our move). My appetite basically disappeared for a couple of weeks, and after that only a handful of foods appealed to me for a while…  not exactly the optimal scenario for a food blogger! So, thank you for continuing to check in despite less frequent posts. I’m happy to report that my appetite is just about back to normal, (I’m exactly 14 weeks), so you can expect my regular schedule of posting to resume =).

I probably won’t write too much about my pregnancy on the blog, as I’m sure the majority of you stop by to read about recipes and not babies ;). That being said, I’m sure I’ll drop notes here and there, specifically on Monday Musings posts. If you’re curious about the back story and/or symptoms I’ve experienced etc. (as I am whenever I read the news that a blogger is pregnant – which seems to happen quite frequently these days!), don’t hesitate to send me an email; I’d be happy to share any information you’re interested in.

Oh, and that adorable bib up there? Might just have to be my first purchase for our baby!

    1. Hope you don’t mind my asking… was it tough growing up to have a birthday so close to such a big holiday? Some people have suggested celebrating a “half” birthday in the summer, but I think birth months are special, and I wouldn’t want to take that away from our kid!

      1. My son’s due date was December 25th (but he was born on December 28th). It is a little hard having his birthday so close to the holidays (plus my husband’s b-day is Dec. 23). It’s hard to plan a party that people can actually come to, so what we usually do is have a party with family/friends at the beginning of December and then just celebrate as a family on his actual birthday. We make sure to divide presents up to, and wrap them in birthday wrapping paper (not christmas paper) so he knows that his birthday is special too. We don’t do much for half-birthdays (speaking of which — my son’s half b-day is today and I totally forgot!), but in the past we have done a half-cake or a small present or something.

        1. My due date was december 24th too! I came two weeks early (but I don’t know if modern technology has improved the due dates at all? haha I’m eighteen) but I just wanted to say congrats as well!!! I never comment on your blog (sorry) but I love your recipes (you were one of the first food blogs I found and you got me hooked(: ) and I wish you the best!

  1. congrats Lauren! i hope everything goes smoothly for you. :) lots of my students do a half birthday in june, but most of them just celebrate in december (not as many ppl celebrate christmas like they used to). take it easy!! :D

  2. Yayyy! Congratulations!! I totally suspected it with your recent posts. I even went back and read a bunch again in case I missed you sharing the news haha. I am glad you shared for real though :D Best of luck with your pregnancy! I look forward to hearing about it on your blog, with all your yummy eats of course :)

  3. Aww, yay! Congratulations. :)

Although we come here for the food, I’m sure we’d all be interested in whatever baby-related things you had to say. And I’m happy your appetite is back to normal.

By the way, I’m posting your raspberry macaroons next week. They are SOOO good. I can’t get over them.

  4. That is so cool! Congratulations! I am so happy for you and John. What a lucky baby to have such wonderful parents. I actually thought something was up when you mentioned the raw oysters in your previous post;) But again, congrats on the little one and the house!

  5. Big congratulations!! How fun!

Check out the book “Foodie Babies Wear Bibs” – its so cute & perfect for you.

When I was pregnant I had terrible morning (all day) sickness and writing a food blog/developing recipes was AWFUL. Once I had to make salmon with peanut butter-red chili sauce….EWWWW! Of course I think it’s delicious now, but it was horrendous at the time.

Anyway, best wishes for you guys!

  6. Congrats! I suspected after the oyster comment too! I was exactly 18 weeks as of June 26th so hooray for a pregnancy buddy!
